Breaking: INEC Postpones 2019 Elections, cites reasons (video)
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Postpones 2019 Elections and the electoral referee of Nigeria has changed the elections of the National Presidential Assembly of 2019 until February 23.
AfricPro News reports that the Commission INEC postpones 2019 elections for governor and state assembly, which will now be held on March 9.
Giving a reason for the decision, Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the decision was made after a careful review of the plan for the exercise.
His words: “After a careful review of the implementation of its logistical and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the commission concluded that continuing with the elections as scheduled is no longer possible,” he said…
“Accordingly, the commission INEC postpones, with a decision to reschedule the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
“In addition, the elections of the Government Area Council, the Chamber of the State Assembly and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are rescheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2019.
This will give the Commission the opportunity to address The issue: Challenges identified to maintain the quality of our elections.
“This was a difficult decision for the Commission to take, but necessary for the successful delivery of the elections and the consolidation of our democracy.”
Yakubu announced that the commission will meet key stakeholders to update them on the development at 2 pm on Saturday.
